This course on History of Modern Philosophy, studies the trends and main authors of modern philosophy with the objective of presenting the great paradigms of thought present in the construction of the modern world.
THEMES:
1. The Renaissance. Concept. The crisis of medieval thought. Basic currents. The new conception of Man.
2. Modern Philosophy. General panorama. Introduction to rationalism and empiricism. Age of Enlightenment.
3. R. Descartes: Meaning and importance of his philosophy. The notion of "universal science". Method and processes of reason. Theory of ideas. Crisis of scepticism and methodical doubt. Metaphysical justification of knowledge.
4. J. Locke. Objective and method of his philosophy. The physiology of understanding.The empiricist theory of knowledge and criticism of innate Ideas. Locke's Ontology: substance and qualities.
5. G.W. Leibniz. General view. Logic and metaphysics. Truths of Reason and and Truths of Fact. The doctrine of substance.
6. - D. Hume. General idea of "The Treaty of Human Nature" and "Investigations Concerning Human Understanding and the Principles of Moral". - Hume on knowledge: impressions and ideas. - Hume's Philosophy of Politics and Philosophy of Religion.
