Continguts
Initially, a preliminary block of lessons is developed, where scientific and professional pharmacy terminology is described. Then, the methodology of History research is presented. The main core of the subject is presented with a global vision on the development of Pharmacy through human history. This global conception justifies the study of the pretechnical civilizations of Asia Minor and Europe, pre-Columbian civilizations of America, the European Classic period and the influence of Islam and Byzantium in the Middle Ages. Special attention is paid to the division of Medicine and Pharmacy during the Middle Ages and the facts that explain such separation. The periods before the Renaissance are described as they influenced the professional behaviour among those who preceded us, and, at the same time, orientated the development of different professional practices. This is more evident when reviewing the Renaissance, the Baroque period and the Enlightenment. The Romanticism is studied as the beginning of a huge development of Pharmacy, which was consolidated during the Positivism and the present times. Finally, the Pharmacy heritage preserved till now is described.
Objetius
The main objective is point out the universal values of pharmacists in different civilizations, their own character and their contribution to health improvement and protection. The science evolution with time will be studied with special attention to the professional evolution of pharmacists, both considered from the beginning of history to nowadays. Drugs used at the period studied will be described and the use will be justified in light of the scientific knowledge.
