Biochemistry seeks to describe the structure, organization, and functions of living matter in molecular terms. The basic concepts are: (1) The chemical structures of the components of living matter and how do they interact to generate more complex supramolecular structures. (2) The chemical reactions that occur in living matter (metabolism) and their regulation. (3) The storage and transmission of genetic information, necessary for a living organism to reproduce itself accurately, as well as the chemical changes responsible for aging and cell death. (4) The close relationship between nutrition and the biochemical processes that occur in humans. |
