| The subject seeks to teach students about the first decades of the cinema's existence, corresponding to what is known as silent cinema. Since most of the students have never studied either history or history of cinema, one of the objectives of the subject is to impart knowledge related to the main technical and theoretical concepts that make up the language of film. A second objective is to help students gain access to knowledge about the most significant movies in the period and the most important film directors in the history of cinema. A third objective is for students understand the importance that the cinema has as a vehicle of culture and communication, and the fundamental place occupied by the history of images. The program is structured according to geographical and chronological approaches and includes: the birth of the cinema, the cinema in early times, the birth of classical cinema and Hollywood, German silent cinema and expressionism, Soviet silent cinema, the film vanguards (surrealism, dadaism, futurism, abstract cinema) and Nordic silent cinema. |
