The course's aim is to promote general knowledge of the evolution and metamorphosis that the different specialties went through in the contemporary era, as well as the actual concepts of art and artist in themselves. After studying the foundations that gave place to this new period starting from the second half of XVIII century (fall of the Old Régime, establishment of new aesthetic categories, appearance of art critics, progressive democratization of art, opening of public museums, end of classic treaties, etc.), students will go on to study movements, artists and most significant works of art, and their influence on the period. The enormous volume of artistic production during the XIX and XX centuries, makes it necessary to establish a hierarchy in which the truly decisive aspects, relationships and concepts prevail, with object of providing students with the necessary information to understand the complexity of the period, rather than transforming the classes into a mere study of art manuals and texts. |
