The course promotes student knowledge of the political realities of the Old Régime. Understanding current systems in power in modern society and to observe how, in their historical development, royal power becomes dominant although not exclusive, is the main aim of this subject. Students will evaluate monarchic development regarding its dialectical relationship with society, with the forces that support it and those that limit it or oppose it. Content focuses on the the main political formations of Europe, although these may not be absolute monarchies - and to a latter extent external monarchies, specially Asian political models. In a first phase the monarchic State is studied, as archetype of the era, from a generic point of view: internal organization, class sysyem, ideological legitimation, stages of their development, etc. Once the concept of State and its elements are clarified, the historical development of diverse cases are analyzed, emphasizing distinctive features, and peculiarities that characterize each one of the political formations. |
