1. - Objective and content of the course.

The first objective of the subject Spanish Economy is the study of the recent changes in the Spanish economy, transformations that have implied a period of economic growth and important structural change. As a second objective, the current structure of the Spanish economy is analyzed, stressing on the characterization of the productive sectors and institutional aspects, like the labour market or the public sector.
The program is organised around three parts, that is:
a) The first part offers a panoramic vision of the stages and characteristic features of industrialization in Spain, as a reference framework for the study of the process of economic growth and structural change of the Spanish economy from the sixties. The analysis begins with a long term perspective which points out the evolution of the main decisive factors of growth, then goes on to the study of the main imbalances and the macroeconomic policies used to tackle them, highlighting its use after the creation of the Economic and Monetary Union.
b) The second part of the program is dedicated to the analysis of the productive sectors (agrarian, industry and services sector), basic structural characteristics and interconnection with the rest of the economic system.
c) The third part of the program approaches the institutional aspects of the Spanish economy. The labour market, the role and configuration of the public sector and the
