Continguts
The goal of this course is to provide students with the foundations of databases using the relational DBMS model, as well as to develop basic skills in using the database language, interactive SQL. In the subjet, a consistent methodology of design of relational databases is presented, covering from the conceptual design to the physical design, that will allow the student to analyze and to design its own relational databases, and also to recover information by means of queries in SQL. The theoretical part is complemented with the practical module in which it is learned to handle to the BD tool Access in order that the student is able to implement the relational DB designs and to carry out SQL queries on them. Summarizing, the contents are: Introduction to Databases. Basic concepts of relational Data Bases and Principles of design for relational DB. Conceptual design of relational DB: Entity-Relationship diagrams. Logical design of relational DB: Relational model and Relational algebra. SQL Query Language. Theory of the Normalization.
