This course seeks to offer a general view of how ancient myths have been reflected in art throughout history. After a brief introduction to mythology and art, in which the definition of "myth" will be approached and the main sources of study, the following topics will be developed, dedicated to the art and mythology within each one of the chosen civilizations: Egypt, the Near East, Oriental civilizations, Pre-Columbian America and the Greco-Roman world. In each of these topics the following aspects will be studied: how the origin of life on earth was conceived, their main divinities, myth and religious literature, sacred architecture. |
