The main course objective is to introduce students to the most important aspects of artistic expression of the prehispanic American cultures, with special emphasis on Meso-American and Andean art. The course begins with a brief introduction to these cultures: period in time and geographical sitution of the different civilizations, as well as the main sources for the study of pre-columbian art. The rest of the topics study the specific artistic expression in each of the chosen cultures. It is necessary to introduce students to the complex world of political-religious beliefs, explaining how these are expressed in architecture, sculpture, painting (mural and ceramic), and establishing relationships between some cultures and others. |
