This course studies the main artistic currents that developed throughout history in the Indian subcontinent, Tibet and Southeast Asia. It is necessary, first of all, to introduce students to the geographical and historical environment of the area. Next, topics dedicated to Indian art will be approached, from its origins to the appearance of Buddhist and Hindu art, continuing with other currents such as Gupta, rajput and dravid art. Once these topics have been studied, students will be introduced to another section on how Indian art spread, which will include topics dedicated to Angkor and khmer art, and also how Buddhist art spread through Tibet, Indonesia and Burma. The course concludes with topics dedicated to indo-islamic art. |
