The subject offers a panorama of Western European Art between the year 1000 and 1500 embracing the periods denominated by the Romanic and Gothic Art. The historical development of art and architecture is ordered chronologically, dedicating the first term to Romanic and the second to Gothic. Each topic begins with a historical introduction that contemplates the cultural and social functions of art and the environment of the artistic work in particular. Next, manifestations of architecture, painting and sculpture are studied, as well as some aspects of applied arts, relating artistic production with the social atmosphere and the culture of their time.
