Study of the significance of Art Nouveau and Art Deco as styles that represent the most representative artistic movements between 1880 and 1940. Comparison between both trends, their similarities and differences, as well as the study of iconographies of varied nature, serve as a general introduction. Other interesting areas of study look at the geographical and sociological aspects of both styles, the protagonism of a series of cities (London, Paris, Brussels, Vienna) and events, such as the universal exhibitions of 1900 and 1925. The course will have two main focuses: one looking at Art Nouveau and Art Deco as styles that developed mainly in the field of applied art, and a more global vision of their cultural relevance in the area of modern artistic expression. |
