The aim of this subject is to approach the gender differentiation as seen in the history of the modern West between the XVI-XVIII centuries. From this perspective, topics such as the cultural construction of feminine and masculine identities will be approached, the intellectual debate in this respect and the production of symbolic meanings and of social behaviours, as well as the presence and the relationship between women and men in different fields: rural and urban work, sociability and the popular culture, theology, the ecclesiastical organization and the spiritual and religious experience, education, circles and practices of the intellectual activity, the writing and the publication, or the spaces of domesticity and private life or the politics of Old Régime and the revolutionary rupture of the XVIII century.
