| The course has a thematical approach and therefore doesn't focus on specific authors. A classic concept of socio-cultural anthropology present in social sciences, political philosophy and humanities in general: the concept of ethnic group. At first the concept will be analyzed in relation to certain theories of national identity, as in is the case of analysis by Anthony D. Smith and Ulises Moulines. In its second stage the course will focus on the recent criticism on the ethnic concept, clarifying its ambiguity, limits and scope (especially of the culturalist approach). Therefore the course's main objective is that of clarification of concepts, rather than an empiric or descriptive study on ethnoses. Never the less, some of those empiric studies will serve as basis for reflection. |
