2. Tudor and Elizabethan drama: Conditions, theatres, audiences. Interludes. Classical Roman influence. The beginning of English comedy and tragedy (Gorboduc). The University Wits. Thomas Kyd and The Spanish Tragedy. Christopher Marlowe: Edward II.
-William Shakespeare: Command of language: use of prose and verse, rhetoric. Use of sources, interplay of plot and subplots, metatheatre.
