Classes will be given in the lecture hall, in the language laboratory (when available) and in the computer room (when available). Students are expected to participate actively in the classes.

1. Continuous Assessment OR
2. A theoretical examination and a practical examination. Students must pass both to pass the course.

-Phonology in the study of the English language.
-Standard Pronunciation. Received Pronunciation. Phonetics and phonology: basic concepts. Acoustic phonetics, articulatory phonetics and auditory phonetics.
-Introduction to the articulation of consonants, vowels and
diphthongs. Basic phonological concepts.
-Description and classification of English consonants.
English vowels and diphthongs. Connected speech: assimilation, elision, juncture.
-Introduction to accent, rhythm and intonation in English. Comparison with Spanish phonological system.
Objetius
-To give the students a grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of phonology and phonetics. To give them a complete description of English phonemes and the phonological processes in connected speech.
-To help students to transcribe texts phonemically and offer them an introduction to to phonetic transcription.
-To help the student to master the pronunciation of English and to help her/him to understand isolated words and connected speech. Also to help students to help themselves to overcome problems involving the acquisition of English pronunciation.
