The theoretical sessions will be largely based on powerpoint presentation in the lecture hall. Additional sources and material
will also be offered during the course, such as photocopiable
material, online links, etc. A weekly session is devoted to
guided practical activities.

Continguts
Introduction to English lexicology. The origin of English words. Contrast between native and non-native vocabulary in Contemporary English. Word meaning. Inflectional and derivational morphology. Lexical variation. An overview of English lexicography.
Objetius
This is an introduction to the study of English lexicology and lexicography. No prior linguistic knowledge is required from students. Theoretical aspects will be dealt with in class. However, there will be a practical section where students will become aware of the usefulness of vocabulary practice. A theoretical and practical analysis of a wide range of Contemporary English dictionaries will also be offered.
