A selection of text samples related to the course topics will be studied in class. Students will be working with handouts containing both text samples belonging to a variety of contexts as well as tasks and activities to be done in class. |

Course Objectives: 1.) The concept of text and related concepts will be introduced. 2.) Students will be made familiar with different text types, and with the specific linguistic and discoursal characteristics displayed. 3.) Texts will be approached as both products and processes of social action. 4.) Students will develop an awareness of the expression of subjectivity in texts, through critical discourse analysis Contents: PART I: Understanding texts: theoretical and practical approach Unit 1 Introduction: Text and related concepts (text, text type, discourse, genre).
