The student will know the physical-chemical and biological characteristics of the different materials used in odontology and conditions of their clinical manipulation. The student will identify the different parts of the dental unit and its utility. The student will learn the main work positions and instrumentation techniques.

1. - Concept of odontological material. General requirements of material for odontological use. Requirements of an impression material and an obturation material. Requirements of cementing material.
2. - Structures of solids. Systems of unit measures. Standardization and normalization of materials of odontological use.
3. - Physical-mechanical properties of solid materials.
4. - Rheological properties of flowing materials.
5. - Surface properties. Concept of adhesion.
6. - Thermal and electrical properties. Corrosion.
7. - Optic properties. Biological properties.
8. - General classification of impression materials. Dental plasters.
9. - Non elastic impression materials. Zero and compound.
10. - Elastic impression materials I: hydrocoloids.
11. - Elastic impression materials II: elastomere synthesis.
12. - Lining materials. Straining technique.
13. - General concepts of metallurgy: pure metals and metallic alloys.
