The main purpose of this subject is to offer the students a complete, though accessible focus, of a part of modern microeconomy; that dedicated to the theory of demand. This objective is achieved offering intuitive explanations of the main results and highlighting the common mathematical structures (as maximizing behavior and balance properties) of many economic problems. In the first part of the program the economic theory of choice is presented. One of the final objectives of this exam is to explain the concept of market demand in a formal way in order to be able to use it in Microeconomy II and other subjects that make use of this concept. Another more general objective is to explain the theory that the economists use to explain the decisions that individuals make in a wide variety of situations. In the second part of the program we examine the production and the offer of economic goods. The objective of this part is to develop methods to analyze the production decisions of a company, which are studied more widely in Microeconomy II.
