| Topics to be treated (among other possible ones): · Universe: The cosmos and theories about its origin; the solar system and the historical evolution of its knowledge; the stars and galaxies. · Life: the diversity of life (taxonomies); the uniqueness of life (the cell and its organelles, vital functions, genetics, metabolism...); social implications of genetic engineering, the Evolution of species and the history of Life. · The Ecology and the current problems of environment: basic concepts of ecology; matter and energy cycles; near examples; the biodiversity, the biocentrism, the "hole" of the ozone layer; the global heating of the planet and the greenhouse effect - · The Earth: characteristics of the planet at great scale; history of the planet; plate tectonics; the climate and the meteors; the interior of the earth and earthquakes. · The Brain and The Intelligence: evolution of the knowledge on the brain in the last decades, the intelligence and the intellectual abilities; some derived problems of lesions in the brain; the learning and the adaptation of the brain. · Topics of present time: the problem of "Mad Cows Disease", AIDS, "Cloning", and any other one that requires attention at the corresponding moment of the course. |
