Five sessions of 3 daily hours in the morning or in the afternoon, distributed in groups. 2. Obligatory attendance. 3. It is recommended to carry out a laboratory notebook. 4. Practices will be carried out individually or in groups, in function of available material in the laboratory. 5. List of practices to carry out: a) Identification of symmetry elements and stereographic projection of those, in different crystalline classes (mainly cubic, dimetric and rhombic systems). b) Crystalographic techniques for mineral analysis (brief introduction to X-ray diffraction). Application of Hannawalt method to identification of mineral mixtures. c) Determining structural formula of silicated minerals, based on data of chemical and crystalographic analysis. d) Visual recognition of mineral samples. e) Visual recognition of rock samples.
