SYLLABUS:
Introduction to microbiology. Microbial nutrition and matabolism. Cell structure and function in prokaryotes. Genetic recombination in prokaryotes. Essentials of virology. Growth and environment. Control of microorganisms. Main microbial groups. Nature of symbiotic associations. Introduction to environmental microbiology. Microbiology and biotecnology.

OBJETIVES:
The main aim is to give the student a basic knowledge in general Microbiology and in the most relevant structural and functional characteristics of the different microorganisms, centering the study on the prokaryotes. After an introductory chapter, the program is divided in different parts that group lessons together within a major theme. In total, 23 lessons are included in the following parts: introduction to Microbiology; microbial nutrition and metabolism; prokaryotic cell structure and function; genetic exchange and recombination; introduction to Virology; microbial growth, environmental effects on microbial growth and principles of antimicrobial control; microbial evolution and systematics with a brief introduction to the main groups of microorganisms; microbial interactions with other organisms, including the beneficial and the harmful ones and an introduction to Immunology; introduction to Environmental Microbiology; introduction to Biotecnology. The program has been designed taking into account the courses taken previously or simultaneously by the students. Therefore, the students ar
